Zita Welter, a long-time resident of the Montgomery City area, passed away On January 12, 2019 at New Florence Care Center.

Zita was born on May 18, 1922 in Wesley, IA. She was the daughter of Benedict Studer and Zita Matern Studer. Zita was one of ten children. She attended elementary and high school in Wesley, IA. Zita spent all her early years on the family farm. She moved to Dubuque, IA to attend nursing school.

Zita received her nursing degree from Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. She met her husband of 45 years John J. Welter in Dubuque, IA. They married on February 6, 1945 in Wesley, IA., but resided in Dubuque, IA.

Zita worked as a nurse at Mercy Medical Center but devoted most of her years to raising her six children.

Zita moved to Montgomery City, MO in 1990 to live near her daughter, Kathy, when her husband John died. She became very active with Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City. Zita volunteered many hours to church activities, helping at the catholic school and participating in the Knights of Columbus's dinners. She diligently decorated the church every week for Sunday mass for years, filling the church with fresh flowers. Zita also enjoyed quilting every Wednesday with the Immaculate Conception Quilters.

Zita loved to write poems. She wrote poems for each of her sixteen grandchildren, for special family celebrations, and for many of her friends. Zita's memories will live on and be cherished.in her many poems to family and friends.

Zita was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters, her beloved husband John, and two of her children-Dan and Jeff.

Zita is survived by four of her six children, Bill (wife-Dorothy), Bob (wife-Roberta), Kathy (husband-Steve) and Mark (wife-Sara) and two daughters-in-law from her deceased sons: Dan (wife-Lori) and Jeff (wife-Donna), sixteen grandchildren and forty seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City, MO. Burial was in the  St. Mary's Cemetery in Montgomery City, MO. Visitation was held on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Church with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at the church.
