Virginia Lee Cullom, 86, of New Florence, MO, formerly of Montgomery City, MO, died at 3:53 PM on Friday, February 12, 2016, at the New Florence Nursing and Care Center in New Florence, MO.
Virginia was born February 17, 1929, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Virgil and Laura Hamm Tumilty. She was the widow of Clarence Eugene "Gene" Cullom. They were married at High Hill, MO, on November 15, 1947. Gene passed away in January of 1999.
Virginia attended the Sand Hill Public School for four years and then attended High Hill Public School and Walnut Grove School, graduating from Jonesburg High School as a valedictorian student of May, 1945.
She then went to St. Louis and enrolled in Mound City College. She was employed in the office of Dr. Little and Dr. Castrine of St. Louis as a receptionist. She worked there until her marriage to Gene Cullom. Virginia was later employed in 1969 at Farm Bureau and License fee office until she retired in year 2000.
Mrs. Cullom is survived by two sons, Robert Eugene Cullom and wife, Diane, of Altamont, Illinois and Richard Alan Cullom and wife, Joan, of Montgomery City, MO; four grandchildren: Robbie Dowds and wife, Erica of Texas; Penny Dowds of Effingham, IL; Jason Cullom and wife, Stefanie of Warrenton, MO; and Justin Cullom of Columbia, MO; also seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
Mrs. Cullom was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; sister, Shirley Moore, and brother-in-law, Leo.
Funeral services were held at Schlanker Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. The Reverend Gary Bailey officiatec and interment was in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, north of Montgomery City, MO. Visitation was held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Casketbearers included Don Worley, Kevin Worley, Kent Worley, Gene Davis, Jason Cullom and Charlie Schaefer.
