Versel Ray Callahan, 74, of rural Montgomery City, MO, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, MO, surrounded by family. Ray was born November 15, 1943 and was raised in St. Louis and graduated from Ritenour High School in 1962. Throughout his career Ray was a Police Officer for St. Louis County before going to work for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing. Ray retired from Boeing in 2007 after 34 years. Ray was also a part-time Sheriff's Deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.

Ray is survived by his wife of 21 years, Carol Callahan of Montgomery City, MO, his children: Nicki (Logan) Mathias, Shane Callahan and Shanna Callahan, all of Springfield, MO; brother, Don (Kim) Callahan of Dardenne Prairie, MO; step-children: Keith Smith of Ashland, MO and Christal (Jason) Jones of Linn, MO; grandchildren: Chase Jones of the United States Navy and Shalynn Jones of Linn, MO, as well as several nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Versel J. and Daphna (nee Howdeshell) Callahan and his sisters, Kathleen Masters and Brenda Callahan.

Ray was a Harley Davidson enthusiast. He enjoyed riding, building and showing his motorcycles. He was a classic car collector and enjoyed tinkering in his garage as often as he could.

The only thing Ray loved more than his Harley's, his cars and his M & M's was his family. Ray was a loving husband and a proud, dedicated father to his children. He was the Pa-Pa who could fix everything for his grandchildren. Ray enjoyed spending time with his siblings and their families as much as possible. Ray will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 4:00 PM until the time of service at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Private interment will be held on Sunday at the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville, MO.
