Verna Winter Davis, 98, of New Florence, MO, formerly of rural Montgomery City, MO, died on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at the St. Andrews New Florence Care Center in New Florence, MO.

Verna Lucille Winter Davis was born on May 31, 1922 in Montgomery County, MO, to Edwin Simon Winter and Alma Wehrman Winter. She graduated from Montgomery City High School and attended one year of college at Kirksville, MO. Verna married John Walker Davis on October 21, 1945 in Montgomery City, MO, and he preceded her in death on February 26, 1991. They were married over 45 wonderful years and together they worked hard on the farm. She lived on the family farm until her health started to decline and had to go to the nursing home. Verna was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She was a lifetime member of the Buell United Methodist Church in Buell, MO, was a great homemaker, taught Sunday School for years, played the piano at Buell United Methodist Church, was a former member of the Two Mile Branch Extension Club, a former 4-H leader, canned lots of vegetables, and enjoyed reading especially her Bible. She loved spending time with all her family, especially her grandchildren, and all her friends. She will be dearly missed.

Mrs. Davis is survived by one son, James A. Davis and wife, Anita, of Montgomery City, MO; one daughter, Linda Jane Jones and husband, Gary, of North Las Vegas, Nevada; six grandchildren: Gerald Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada; Andrew Jones and wife, Becky, of Oregon; Jennifer Farrell and husband, Joshua, of Utah; Lori Breshers and husband, Bill, of Oklahoma; Jessica Jones and husband, Chris, of Montgomery City, MO, and Neal Davis and wife, Amanda, of rural Montgomery City, MO; fourteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Fred Winter of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister, Melba Clark of Phoenix, Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Simon Winter and Alma Wehrman Winter; husband, John Walker Davis; brother, Harvey Winter and wife, Mary Elizabeth; and sister-in-law, Ann Winter.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 22, 2020, at the First United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Ed Hankinson officiated and interment was in the Montgomery City Cemetery. Visitation was held from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church on Monday.
