Samuel Francis "Frank" Cobb, Sr., 98, of Montgomery City, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016 at his home.

A Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City. Burial followed in Worland Cemetery near Montgomery City. Visitation was Tuesday evening from 3-8 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Casketbearers were Edward Hunn, Andrew Hunn, Kevin Cobb, John Cobb Jr., Daniel Cobb, Tim Cobb, Brian Cobb and Keith Beardslee.

Frank was born April 1, 1918 in Montgomery County, the son of Samuel Henry and Cora Elizabeth (Worland) Cobb. On April 24, 1942, he married Ella Ophelia Love. She preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 1992. He then married Rhoda Louise Fischer Garrett on Oct. 25, 1995 and she preceded him in death on June 24, 2013.

Mr. Cobb was a lifelong farmer and member of Immaculate Conception Church. He was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Frank was an original member of the Service and Supply Co-Op and served on the extension council. He served as a 4-H leader and was an original organizer to create the New Florence Telephone Company.

Frank loved bird hunting and trained many bird dogs. He enjoyed traveling around to schools with his two dogs, Spot and Buttons, so they could do tricks. He played baseball in his younger days and really loved the St. Louis Cardinals. Frank also loved to "jig" at a dance.

Survivors include his children, Margaret "Margo" Smith and husband, Bob, of Odessa, Patricia A. Hunn and husband, John, of Foristell, Sam Cobb Jr. and wife, Donna, of New Florence, Bob Cobb and wife, Phyllis, of Troy, John Cobb and wife, Nancy, of High Hill, Jim Cobb and wife, Jill, of Warrenton, David Cobb and wife, Janet, of Montgomery City, Tom Cobb and wife, Alice, of New Florence, and Mary Ella Beardslee and husband, Mike, of Mexico; 27 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Richard L. Cobb and wife, Joan, of Nashville, IL.

Mr. Cobb was preceded in death by two wives, one son, Dan Cobb; one granddaughter, Kimberly Sue Smith, who died on Jan. 10, 2016; one brother, Ernest Cobb; and two sisters, Helen Alt and Lorene Shocklee.
