Ruth Helen Frye Poindexter, 98, of Mexico, MO, formerly of Montgomery County, MO, died on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Pin Oaks Care Center in Mexico, MO.
Ruth Helen Frye Poindexter was born on September 26, 1920 in New Florence, Missouri to Felix and Callie Atterberry Frye. She married Samuel Marland Poindexter on March 14, 1940 in Montgomery City, MO, and they were married for over 74 wonderful years until he preceded her in death on December 31, 2014. Mrs. Poindexter and her husband worked hard on the farm and they were both Custodians at Montgomery County R-II Schools. Mrs. Poindexter worked at the Middle School and then later on at the Montgomery Elementary School. She was a member of the First United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City; enjoyed Old Thresher's; and loved to travel. In 1946 they left their farm and moved to Montgomery City where they lived until they started traveling. They had been to all the states except in the NE including Hawaii and Canada. She always had a big garden with vegetables and flowers and enjoyed canning and freezing her vegetables. Mrs. Poindexter collected dolls and was an avid seamstress. She made doll clothes for Barbie Dolls and Cabbage Patch Dolls, would sew for people, even altered coats. She loved to spend time with her family and her many friends.
Mrs. Poindexter is survived by one daughter, Rosalie Wertz and husband, JR, of Mexico, MO; two sons: David Alan Poindexter and companion, Sharon Navage of Odessa, TX; and Thomas Samuel Poindexter and wife, Sande, of Littleton, CO. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Jennifer Maddox of Mexico, MO; Jay Knipp and fiancée, Dawn Baker, of New Florence, MO; Nancy Surls and husband, Randy, of Middletown, MO; and Jessica Neuroth and husband, Corey, of Fort Collins, CO; one step-grandson, Spencer Coleman of CO; great-grandchildren: Deirdre Knipp, Caitlyn Maddox, Kalyn Surls, and Ryker, Maverick, and Eastin Neuroth; great-great-children: Evelynne Rose, Harlin Jean, and Lilliann Fay; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mrs. Poindexter was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Samuel Marland Poindexter; one granddaughter, Julie Suzanne Knipp, one sister, Jewell Williams and three brothers, Homer, John, and Felix Eugene Frye.
Graveside services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Montgomery City Cemetery in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Kenneth Cleeton officiated and interment was in the Montgomery City Cemetery in Montgomery City, MO. A Celebration of Life was held immediately after the Graveside service at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO.
