Roberta Ann (Funkhouser) Gray was born in Mount Vernon, Illinois on October 30, 1927 to Cletus Stanley and Verna Rita (Boyd) Funkhouser. She married Louis Edward Gray, also of Mount Vernon in 1948. They divorced in 1972. She worked primarily at secretarial and administrative work for a variety of businesses: a lawyer in Hannibal, MO, Utility Consultants, Inc. of Hermann, MO and Lake St. Louis, MO, and as a tax preparer in Wentzville, MO. She retired in 1993.

Roberta was an avid water skier, skiing regularly on the Mississippi, Missouri, Illinois, and Gasconade Rivers, the Lake of the Ozarks, and Mark Twain Lake. She was a bird-watcher, lover of plants and flowers, a voracious reader, a seasonal traveler, and a seamstress and knitter, and at the age of 74 bought a horse, which she went on to ride and drive. Roberta loved singing in the choir of every church she attended, and was most recently a member of St. John's UCC of High Hill.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Robert Funkhouser and John Funkhouser. She is survived by a sister, Annette Donnelly of Mission Viejo, CA; two sisters-in-law, Mary Funkhouser of East Peoria, IL and Susan Bates of Mahomet, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her daughter, Patty (John) Baker of Montgomery County; grandson, Karl (Tammy) Baker of Montgomery County; granddaughter, Nancy (Glen) Morris of Columbia; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, William Baker and Elisa Sanders.

Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, at St. John's UCC in High Hill with Reverend Donald Deeker officiating. Visitation is Tuesday from 1:00-2:00 pm at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Montgomery Senior Center, St. John's United Church of Christ, or the charity of your choice. They may be sent in care of Schlanker Funeral Home, 207 Danville Road, Montgomery City, MO 63361.
