Robert L. Rayfield, 87, of Montgomery City, MO, formerly of Bellflower, MO, died on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the New Florence Care Center in New Florence, MO.
Robert L. Rayfield was born August 12, 1930 in Ellington, MO, to Willard Rayfield and Ollie Bingham Rayfield. When he was ten years old he came to Montgomery City to live with his Great Uncle and Great Aunt, Bob and Inez Newton. He graduated from Montgomery City High School where he met his high school sweetheart, Betty Lovelace. In 1952 he married Betty in Leige, MO. Mr. Rayfield worked for Newton Motor Co. in Montgomery City, MO, during and after high school. Mr. Rayfield enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1950 until 1954 during the Korean War. He was stationed in Nasauarock Greenland and then at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After the Air Force he returned to Montgomery City, where he worked at the National Refractories in Mexico, MO. His job transferred him to Alabama and after working several years there he started his own business, Rayfield Supply Co., which he had for about 30 years. Bob and Betty moved back to the Bellflower Area after he retired to take care of Betty's mother, Alma. They sold their farm and moved to Montgomery City in 2011 when their health started to decline. They loved having their grandson, Brett, visit from Florida. Bob loved to go fishing with Brett and they enjoyed cutting the grass together too. Mr. Rayfield loved being with his family and his many friends.
Mr. Rayfield is survived by his Wife of over 65 years, Betty Lovelace Rayfield, of Montgomery City, MO; his Grandson, Brett Rayfield of Florida; Granddaughter, Carli Rayfield Nobles of Florida; and three Great-Grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Cindy Rayfield of St. Petersburg, FL. Also surviving is a Brother, Jack Rayfield of Bolton, MO; a Sister, Sue Thomas, of Noel, MO; and many friends.
Mr. Rayfield was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Ollie Rayfield; their only son, Michael Rayfield; Great Uncle and Great Aunt, Bob and Inez Newton, and his Mother and Father-in-law.
Funeral services was held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Ed Hankinson officiated and interment with full military honors was in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, North of Montgomery City, MO. There was not be any visitation. Casketbearers included Brett Rayfield, Donny Schroeder, Paul Schroeder, Randy Riddle, Rick Cullom, Bobby River, and Bob Schlanker. Honorary casketbearers included John Schneider, Jerry Dettenwanger, Tom Riddle, Bob River, and Bob Shelton.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Sunrise Memorial Gardens Cemetery or to the Montgomery VFW, c/o Schlanker Funeral Home, 207 Danville Road, Montgomery City, MO 63361.
