Raymond F. Pfautsch, 76, of Montgomery City, MO, died on Monday, April 24, 2017, at his home.

Raymond F."Peanuts" Pfautsch was born at Workman Hospital in Hermann, MO, on June 25, 1940, the second of five children born to Elroy F. and Rosalind C. Duffner Pfautsch. On October 8, 1960, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Rehmert in Hermann, MO.

Ray graduated from St. George High School in 1958. He grew up in Hermann and spent all his life in the Hermann and Montgomery City area, having moved to Montgomery City in 1962. He began working as a carpenter in 1956 for his Uncle Frank Pfautsch and later moved to Montgomery City to work for John Ernst. He learned work ethics early in life having delivered papers and milk during his high school years. His carpentry skills were instilled in him by his Grandfather who was also a carpenter, as was his Great Grandfather Eustach Pfautsch, who helped build the Concert Hall in Hermann in 1878. He worked for 53 years in the construction business and owned his own construction company for 13 of those years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City, MO.

Ray served as a volunteer fireman for nine years for Montgomery City and Montgomery Rural Fire Departments and helped to form the Rural Fire Department. In 1982 he was awarded the Outstanding Service Award in Fire Prevention by the Missouri Association of Mutual Insurance Co. In April of 1980 Ray became certified as an EMT and worked part time for the Montgomery County Ambulance District for several years. He helped with Troop 49 Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts while his sons were in Scouts. He was also a certified CPR instruction for the American Red Cross.

His greatest joy was his family and loved to celebrate holidays with BBQ's and preparing deep fried turkey. Ray's hobbies were photography and fishing, watching Cardinal Baseball, Mizzou Football and Basketball.

Mr. Pfautsch is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of 56 years and four children: Deborah L. Meyer and husband, Stanley, of Hermann, MO; Gregory R. Pfautsch and wife, Lori, of Bowling Green, MO; Scott M. Pfautsch and wife, Michele, of Montgomery City, MO; and Brad E. Pfautsch and wife, Tiffany, of St. Charles, MO; Five grandchildren: Jessica Pfautsch; Travis Meyer and wife, Brooke, of Wentzville, MO; Jeffrey Meyer of Hermann, MO; Maegan and Joshua Pfautsch of Montgomery City, MO; three step-grandchildren: Joshua Adams of Utah; Courtney Shaw of Bowling Green, MO; and Tara Adams of Texas; nine great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two Sisters: Betty Doyle and husband, John, of DeSoto, MO; Linda Gawer and husband, Gary, of Bryan, TX, and one brother, Allan Pfautsch and wife, Brenda, of Millville, DE; two brothers-in-law: Ervin Rehmert and wife, Jane, of Hermann, MO; and Elton Rehmert and wife, Jill, of Chicago, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Pfautsch was preceded in death by his parents, Elroy Pfautsch and Rosalind Duffner Pfautsch; parents-in-law, Elmer and Esther Rehmert; an infant brother, August Pfautsch; and infant twin granddaughters, Taylor and Olivia Meyer.

Memorial services were held at 11:30 AM on Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Darrel Deeker officiated. Visitation was held from 9:00 AM until 11:30 AM on Friday at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO.
