Paul Payton Coons, Jr., 91, of Montgomery City, MO, died on Friday, January 15, 2021, at his home surrounded by family.
Paul Payton Coons, Jr., was born June 7, 1929 in St. Louis County, MO, to Paul Payton Coons, Sr., and Macie Butcher Coons. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving from March 16, 1951 until December 15, 1952. Mr. Coons married Virginia Boerckel Senevey on May 31, 2014 and they have been married for over six wonderful years. Mr. Coons was a bull rider and enjoyed rodeos, worked in the Parkway School District in St. Louis, MO, drove a truck and also worked at Schnucks. He loved to visit with all his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Mr. Coons is survived by his wife, Virginia Coons of Montgomery City, MO; step-children: Martin Wiser of New Florence, MO; Victor Wiser and wife, Patsy, of Danville, MO; and Diana McChristy and husband, Richard, of Crestview, FL. Also surviving are numerous step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends, including his 5J Rodeo Family of Curryville, MO.
Mr. Coons was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Payton Coons, Sr. and Macie Butcher Coons; wife, Lura Jean Headkamp Coons; son, Paul Coons III; daughter, Macie Coons; and sisters: Doris, Martha, Thelma, Mary Sue, Lillian, Helen, Grace and Ruth.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM (NOON) on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Ed Hankinson will officiate and interment with full military honors will be in the Montgomery City Cemetery in Montgomery City, MO. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Casketbearers include Martin Wiser, Victor Wiser, Richard McChristy, and Mike Noonan.
