Otto Louis Bernat, 80, of Montgomery City, MO, died on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at his home in Montgomery City, MO, surrounded by his family.

Otto Louis Bernat was born December 7, 1935 in High Hill, MO. He was the son of Otto Christian Bernat and Irma Schnarre Bernat. In the early years of his life, his family moved to New Florence, where Ott helped his family in the New Florence Lumber Company. In 1961 he married Phyllis Anne Rodgers and to this union two children were born: Christina Ann and Eric Wayne Bernat.

Mr. Bernat is survived by his wife, Phyllis Anne Rodgers Bernat of Montgomery City, MO; one daughter, Christina Ann Ford and husband, Everett, of Crossville, TN; and one son, Eric Bernat and wife, Billie, of rural Montgomery City, MO; grandchildren: Heather Schmidt and husband, Ben, of Bellflower, MO; Rodney Bernat of Montgomery City, MO; Jason, Travis and Crystal Ford of Crossville, TN. , Dustin Kirkpatrick of Montgomery City, MO; Dillon Kirkpatrick of St. Charles, MO; Raven and Zoe Grennan of Montgomery City, MO; and Megan and Destiny Million of Peidmont, MO. Also surviving are great-grandchildren: Dakota and Heaven Ford of Crossville, TN; and Ariann Miller of Peidmont, MO.

Mr. Bernat was preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Bernat Deeker and Audrey June Bernat; brother Arthur Bernat, and his parents.

Ott and Phyllis were owners of Fairway Lumber and Discount Gifts and then later the Oni Shop.

Funeral services were held at 5:00PM on Monday, June 20, 2016, at the First United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Ed Hankinson and the Reverend Darrell Deeker officiated and interment was in the Montgomery City Cemetery. Visitation was held on Monday from 3:00 PM until the time of service at the First United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City, MO. Casketbearers included Rodney Bernat, Ben Schmidt, Travis Ford, Dustin Kirkpatrick, Dillon Kirkpatrick, Adam Brittingham, and Joseph Love. Honorary casketbearers included Gale Johnson and Sid Devlin.
