Orville "Buzz" Steffan, 80, of rural Montgomery City, MO, died on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at the New Florence Care Center in New Florence, MO.

Orville "Buzz" H. Steffan was born January 21, 1936 in Chesterfield, MO, to Harry and Flora Heintz Steffan. He married Dorothy Jean Pitman on September 11, 1954 in Kirkwood, MO. Buzz and Dot were married over 62 wonderful years and to this union eight wonderful children were born. Mr. Steffan was a farmer for many years and later drove a truck. When he was a truck driver he would go to his daughter-in-law's first grade class to give talks. They called him "Trucker Buddy Buzz". He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City, MO; the Pork Producers Association; the Cattlemen's Association; served as President of the Montgomery County R-II School Board; the Montgomery County Fair Board; he was a Knights of Columbus Grand Knight twice; served on the Ambulance Board; the Red Cross Blood Drive; he was co-founder and board member of the Service and Supply Coop in New Florence, MO; 4-H leader; Union Grove Community Center; Marriage Encounter; Sunday School Teacher; Quest and TEC; Communion Minister; Catholic School Board member; Honorary FFA Chapter Farmer; Missouri Farm Family of the Year; and Farm Bureau Board. He was a hard worker, never met a stranger, and a friend to everyone. Buzz enjoyed gardening, wine making, fishing, hunting, and cooking. He loved to visit with his whole family and all of his friends.

Mr. Steffan is survived by his wonderful wife, Dorothy Jean Pitman Steffan of the home; children: Daughter-in-law, Sharon Hart Steffan of Williamsburg, MO; Pam Hans and husband, Gary, of Dixon, MO; Wesley Steffan and wife, Vicki, of Lakeville, MN; Terri Johnson and husband, Brian, of Columbia, MO; Valerie Muchow and husband, Randy, of Montgomery City, MO; Kevin Steffan of Paris, MO; Kenneth Steffan and wife, Stefanie, of Eureka, MO; and Candice Babbitt and husband, Steve, of Hazelwood, MO; grandchildren: Shayna, Elyse, Samuel, Joseph, Elizabeth, Nathan, Lindi, Lukas, Taylor, Courtney, James, Nichole, Amy, Drew, Abigail, Bennett, Zachary, and Christian; great-grandchildren: Elaina, Quinn, Kameny, Lacey, Gilbert, Ella, Asher and Carly. Also surviving is one sister, LaVerne Reuther and one brother, Jerry Steffan and wife, Cecilia, all of St. Louis, MO; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Steffan was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Flora Heintz Steffan; son, Steven D. Steffan; sister, Marjorie Zumbehl and husband, Leighton; and brother, Dale Steffan and wife, Janet; and brother-in-law, John Reuther.

A Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Augustine Okoli officiated and interment was in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Montgomery City, MO. Visitation was held on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Casketbearers included members of the 4th Degree Assembly 572.
