Mont Arther Gilbert, 63, of Montgomery City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 8, 2026.

Mont was born on January 8, 1963, in Bellflower, Missouri, to Arther William Gilbert and Vera "Daisy" Mae (Day) Gilbert. He was raised in Bellflower, where he developed the strong work ethic and dedication that would define his life. At an early age, Mont began helping his father with his business, learning valuable skills and the importance of hard work. By the age of 20, he ventured out on his own, determined to provide for his family and build a future through his own efforts.

In 1990, Mont met the love of his life, Sue Marie (Robinson) Gilbert. Affectionately referring to her as his "bride," Mont cherished their life together. United in marriage and business, they founded Gilbert and Sons Construction. Through years of hard work and dedication, the company grew into a successful family enterprise. Their son, Donnie, and grandsons, Jake and Josh, proudly worked alongside Mont, continuing the family tradition that he valued so deeply.

Mont was a family man. He loved his family wholeheartedly and extended that same care and loyalty to his friends, often treating them as family as well. Throughout his years in construction, he mentored countless young men, teaching them not only the trade but also the values of responsibility, integrity, and perseverance. Even after they moved on, Mont kept in touch, calling to check on them and reminding them that they would always have a place with him.

A respected businessman and skilled craftsman, Mont took immense pride in his work and in those who worked beside him. He was known for his willingness to offer advice, share his knowledge, and lend a helping hand whenever needed. His wisdom, generosity, and unwavering support left a lasting impact on many lives.

In recent years, Mont and his "bride" found great joy spending time camping at Mark Twain Lake, a place he lovingly referred to as his "happy place." Those moments brought him peace and happiness and created cherished memories with the people he loved most.

Mont was an active member of his community and dedicated countless hours to organizations that helped improve the lives of others. He was a member of the Missouri Land Improvement Contractors Association, served on the Montgomery County School Board, was a member of the Bellflower Fire Department, Montgomery Masonic Lodge No. 246, the Shriners, and the Montgomery County Fair Board. Through his service and leadership, he helped strengthen the community he loved.

Mont will be remembered for his hard work, generous heart, and his unwavering commitment to helping others. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the business he built, the community he served, and the many lives he touched along the way.

Mont is survived by his wife, Sue Gilbert; five children: Donnie, Joe, Neil, Laura, and Brandy; 11 grandchildren; and his brother, James Gilbert and wife, Kaley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arther and Vera "Daisy" Gilbert, and parents-in-law, Vincent and Lucille Robinson.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, Missouri, with Mike Brandenburg officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Schlanker Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will begin at 7:00 PM.
