Mary Ruth Goretzke, 96, of rural New Florence, MO, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at her home.

Mary Ruth Goretzke was born November 2, 1923 to Harry Varnon and Leola Dyke Varnon. She graduated from Bellflower High School in Bellflower, MO, in a class of twelve. She married Glenn A. Goretzke on August 10, 1942 in St. Louis, MO, and were married over 72 wonderful years until he preceded her in death on September 12, 2014. Mrs. Goretzke was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved to visit with all her family and friends and enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers.

Mrs. Goretzke is survived by her three sons: Glenn Goretzke, Jr. and wife, Rhonda, of Belleville, IL; Edward Goretzke and wife, Barbara, of rural New Florence, MO; and David Goretzke of rural New Florence, MO. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Carla Goretzke, Lara Wolfe and husband, David, Amy Goretzke and Jeff Goretzke all of Bellville, IL; and Kristin Goretzke of Edwardsville, IL; four-great-grandchildren: Matt, Rowan, Max and Sam; one sister, Imogene Woods of rural New Florence, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mrs. Goretzke was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Leola Dyke Varnon; husband, Glenn A. Goretzke; sister, Dorothy Brack; and brother, Robert Varnon.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Tyler King will officiate and interment will be in the Price's Branch Cemetery near New Florence, MO. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. The general public is welcome to attend the service and visitation while following social distancing guidelines. Please stay six feet apart and avoid close contact. Anyone in attendance is asked to wear a mask or other personal protective equipment.
