Mary "Marie" Elizabeth Gruber Snarr aka "Momma", 96, of Montgomery City, MO, died on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at her home surrounded by family and loved ones. Marie was born November 12, 1922 in New Florence, MO to Elijah C. Gruber and Katherine Mary Korman Gruber. She married George Thomas Snarr on January 1, 1946 in Mexico, MO and was married for 53 wonderful years. Mrs. Snarr was a homemaker and successful former business owner along with her husband of VANS Cocktail Lounge in Fontana, CA. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW of Montgomery City and member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Southern California. She enjoyed being a social butterfly, painter, seamstress, and gardener. She loved to mow her grass, bowl, and was an avid fan of the St Louis Cardinals.
Marie is survived by three children: Roy Dean Snarr, Catherine Snarr Crocfer, and Wanda Sue "Susie" Snarr Schilo of Montgomery City, MO; six grandchildren: Roy Thomas Snarr of Georgetown, TX; Jennifer Rose Coursey of San Bernardino, CA ;Michelle Crocfer Fitzgerald and husband, Brien of San Diego, CA; Phillip Stewart and wife, Lori of Sedalia, MO; Christine Stewart Hedding and husband, Brad of Rhineland, MO; Stacey Schilo Dombek and husband, Mike of Riverside, CA; twelve great grandchildren: Madelyn Fitzgerald, Emma Fitzgerald, Margaret Medill, Brigette Stewart, Catherine Stewart Hayworth, Alexandria Stewart Perkins, Chase Stewart, Delilah Stewart, Piper Stewart, Elijah Hedding, Bodhi Hedding, and Elsie Snarr; and three great great grandchildren: Calvin Mace, Jackson Hayworth, and Robert Alanis. She is also survived by two daughters-in-law Jeanne Simmons Hill and Cheryl McConn Snarr; six sisters: Mildred "Mit" Brandenburg, Margaret "Mart" Etter, Wanda Robinson, Ester Blom, Patricia "Dink" Aguilar, and Donna Devlin; three brothers: Henry "Pat" Gruber, Bill Gruber, and John Gruber; dear friend and caregiver, Karen Malone; friends Dorsey Stotler and Curtis Huenefeld; and countless adored nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Elijah and Katherine; her husband, George T. Snarr; her daughter, Christine Ann Snarr; three sisters: Berniece Brandenburg, Alice Pearl Gruber, and Delores "Bonnie" Uphoff; two brothers: Elijah "Bud" Gruber, and Stephen Paul "Mike" Gruber.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Mr. Ryan Hadden and Mr. Mike Brandenburg officiated and interment was in the Montgomery City Cemetery. Visitation was held on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Casketbearers included Dorsey Stotler, Rick Tucker, Mike DomBek, Eli Hedding, Brien Fitzgerald, and Roy Thomas Snarr. Honorary casketbearers included Bob Brandenburg, John Groteluschen, Michael Moore and Michael Brandenburg.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Montgomery VFW; The Montgomery County Senior Center; or to Kindred Hospice of Troy, c/o Schlanker Funeral Home, 207 Danville Road, Montgomery City, MO 63361.
