Marjorie Markovich Miller passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. Marjorie Mae was born September 15, 1923 in Kirksville, Missouri. She was the daughter of Andrew A. Markovich and Bessie Towers Markovich. Marj was a graduate of Wellsville High School in 1941 and she attended William Woods College. On June 30, 1944 Marj married John Gilmer Miller III. They were the parents of Elizabeth Ann Santos and Mary Frances Richter.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Montgomery Study Club GFWC, Montgomery Chapter DAR and a charter member of the Montgomery County Historical Society.
Marj was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Mary, her sister Mary Ann Blattner, her brother Andrew Edward Markovich, her niece Jane P. Blattner and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter Ann, son-in-law William A. Santos, son-in-law Roy L. Richter, granddaughter Amanda Emily Frick and her fiance David Keiser, and her granddaughter Laura Katherine Frick. Also surviving are her nieces Janis Savoie and Frances L. Soverel and her nephews Andrew Mark Blattner and James O. Soverel.
Marj was a diligent supporter of the Montgomery County Historical Society, having served as Curator for 30 years. She had a special interest in preserving the history of Montgomery County and its families. She especially enjoyed helping others in their search of their family histories. She was very proud to receive the "Annual Achievement Award" from the Montgomery City Area Chamber of Commerce. Also, the Montgomery Chapter DAR honored her for "Outstanding Volunteer Service to the Community".
Marj has requested memorials be given to the Montgomery County Historical Society, 112 West Second Street, Montgomery City, MO 63361 or to a charity of your choice.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be a private burial of her cremains at the Montgomery City Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the First United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City, Missouri. The Reverend Ed Hankinson will officiate. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home in Poughkeepsie, NY and the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO.
