Leta B. West, 96, of Buell, Missouri, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, at her home.

Leta, born on September 17, 1927, was one of eight children of Henry Clay West and Maude Mae (Hendricks) West. Her family relocated to a farm in Buell when she was 3 years old, where she spent her entire life. She enjoyed farming, particularly raising chickens and gardening, which led her to harvest and preserve her produce meticulously. Leta was highly self-sufficient, even crafting her own soaps. Despite not having children of her own, she deeply cherished her family, caring for her siblings in times of illness with great devotion.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Shelley Hampton of Springfield, Missouri, Sid West of Montgomery City, Missouri, Lana Bailey of Montgomery City, Missouri, Perry West of Bowling Green, Missouri, Scott West of Troy, Missouri; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Leta was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Clay and Maude Mae West, and her siblings: Leslie, Roy, Howard, Calvin, Buell, Dorothy, and Mary West.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, Missouri, with Reverend Kevin Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in Fairmount cemetery in Middletown, Missouri. Casketbearers include Steve Davis, Tyler Davis, Josh Craig, Dax Hampton, Brady Hampton, and Scott West.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Schlanker Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
