Jerome "Jerry" Dettenwanger, 80, of Montgomery City, MO, died on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at his home.

Jerome Francis Dettenwanger was born on February 23, 1938 in St. Louis, MO, to Frank and Dora Walkenbach Dettenwanger. Jerry married Marlene Hughes in June of 1957 and to this union three children were born, Ted, Ed and Dottie. Jerry married Sharon Askey on June 20, 1964 and she preceded him in death on June 7, 2000. He later married Beverly Richards in April of 2008, and she survives at home. Jerry was a self-employed truck driver hauling lime & fertilizer, but also had worked at McClain's Quarry for several years. Jerry was a former member of the Montgomery County Lion's Club, enjoyed fishing, entertaining, playing his guitar, and singing Karaoke. He loved visiting with all of his family and friends.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Beverly Richards Dettenwanger of the home; son, Ted Dettenwanger and his wife Debbie of Montgomery City; and daughter, Dottie Knoepflein and husband, Dave, of Montgomery City, MO; grandchildren: Derek Knoepflein & Josie of Montgomery City, MO; Deanna Plumb of Montgomery City, MO; Blake Dettenwanger and wife, Katie, of California, MO; Mindy Phillips and husband, Greg, of Jefferson City, MO; Lynn Woodard and husband Kenny of Blue Springs, MO; and Jesse Dettenwanger of Montgomery City, MO; and great-grandchildren: Braden, Brenden, and Briley Plumb, Kadence and Hadley Knoepflein, and Kenny and Kenslei Woodard. With the marriage of Beverly and Jerry he also gained 3 more children that he considered his own; Karen Theis and husband Ted, Steve Richard and Mike Richard and wife Cheri all of St. Charles County, MO. He also gained grandchildren; Trevor & Alexis Theis, Stacy Richard, Sarah and Austin Richard, Devon, Nicole & Natalie, along with Great Grand-children, Seth & Sophia. Also surviving are many friends that he loved spending time with.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dora Dettenwanger; wife, Sharon Lee Askey Dettenwanger; and son, Edward Lee Dettenwanger.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Interment was in the Jonesburg City Cemetery in Jonesburg, MO. Visitation was held on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the time of services at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Casketbearers included Luke Brower, Dorsey Stotler, Curly Jones, Don Broz, Ted Theis, and Bob Shelton. Honorary casketbearers included John Schneider, Al Rakers, Pat Killday, and Ron Richards.
