Jane Elizabeth McQuie 92, of Montgomery City, Missouri, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, after an extended illness.

She was born on July 31, 1931 in Hermann, Missouri, the oldest child of Arlie and Edna (Heck) Scharnhorst. She graduated from Hermann High School, attended Drury College, and went on to obtain her Bachelor's in Education from the University of Missouri. After college she was an elementary school teacher for the Webster Groves school district. In May of 1954, she married Walt D. McQuie, and they were married 67 years until his death on January 17, 2021.

Jane moved to Montgomery City to make her home and family with Walt. Besides raising four children, she spent countless hours volunteering. She was an active member of Montgomery City Methodist-Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and teaching Sunday School. She spent many years teaching as a volunteer at Montgomery City Elementary and in the local adult literacy program, and served as President of the School Board, helping with issues during the construction of the Montgomery County R-II Middle School. Jane was the first woman elected as an alderman in Montgomery City, she initiated and inspired others to help revive The United Way in Montgomery County. She was named Montgomery City Area Chamber of Commerce's 'Person of the Year' in 2008, she was also an active member of the Montgomery City Public Library Board and the Montgomery County Historical Society. Jane was a doting wife and mother, and a proud grandmother. She was a 4-H leader, and a very proud Cub Scout den mom. She truly was a pillar in the community, her compassion and unwavering commitment to her community was surpassed only by her devotion to her family.

She is survived by her children, Walt McQuie of Montgomery City, Ellen McQuie of Columbia, MO, and Andrew McQuie (Chris Kaiser) of Fayetteville Arkansas. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Drew Bruno (Jolene Gilbert-Bruno) of Chicago, Illinois and Ann Bruno (Phil Denight) of Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Kirn McQuie.

A Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the Schlanker Funeral Home, Montgomery City, Missouri on Friday, January 5, 2024.

Family is invited to come at 9:30 am.

The Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM, with Reverend Lynn Quist officiating.

Interment will follow in the Montgomery City Cemetery.
