James R. Smith, 79, of Montgomery City, MO, formerly of St. Ann, MO, died on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2020 at his daughter's home surrounded by family.

James Richard Smith was born December 1, 1940 in Birmingham, Alabama to Hugh F. Smith and Naomi Banister Smith. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force serving from March 15, 1961 until December 12, 1962 and working as a machinist then and the rest of his life. He married Patricia Ann Virciglio on August 1, 1960 in Muscle Shoals, AL and were married for over 58 wonderful years until she preceded him in death on November 16, 2018. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing and visiting with his family and friends.

Mr. Smith is survived by three children: Heather Ann Strange and husband, Keith, of Montgomery City, MO; Rebecca Hilario and husband, Ronnie, of Riverside, CA; and James Smith, Jr. of St. Ann, MO; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Jo Anne McGee and husband, Charles, of TN; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Naomi Banister Smith; wife, Patricia Ann Virciglio; and two brothers: Robert and Frederick Smith.

Private family services will be held at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, MO.
