James Allen Day Sr, of New Florence, MO, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021, at the age of 76. Jim was born on January 16, 1945 in Pryor, Oklahoma to Orval and Grace Day. After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Army in Vietnam. He retired from General Motors after 33 years and started Jim's Small Engine Repair.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Day, daughter, Shelly Graslaub (Gary), son, James Day Jr (Tonya), grandchildren, Joe Graslaub (Kacey), Matt Graslaub, Brianna Day, Nicklaus Day, Sadye Vollman, Trenton Vollman, Raina Vollman, Wesley Day, great-grandchildren, Tre Stewart, and Kamdyn Graslaub, and sisters, Hilda Thompson (Walter), Maxine Crawford.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Grace Day, his brothers, Larry Day, William "Bud" Day, sisters, Marie Weaver, Nadine Hinkle.
James toured in a country and western band Don Elkins and the Missouri Poor Boys. He enjoyed hunting,fishing,raising a garden and visiting with friends and family. He never met a stranger, and he enjoyed working on small engines and watching his favorite bird (purple martens) return to his marten houses every spring.
James was very involved in his community and would lend a hand whenever it was needed.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #246 in Montgomery City, Mo, and a member of the Mid Mo Shrine Club in Montgomery City, Mo.
James was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Interment with full Military Honors will be in the New Florence Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 PM until 7:30 PM with a Masonic Service at 7:30 PM at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Casketbearers include Joe Graslaub, Matt Graslaub, Nick Day, Wes Day, Mike Williams, and Steve Greeves. Honorary casketbearers include Hal Wagner and Mike Grotewiel.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to Shriners Hospital of St. Louis in care of Schlanker Funeral Home.
