Herschel Daniel Lichtenberg, 87, of Bellflower, MO died Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family, following a short illness.

Herschel was born on February 24, 1933 in Truxton, MO, to Daniel Henry Lichtenberg and Eunice Louise Jones Lichtenberg. He grew up attending church at the Zion Church near Truxton, MO. He was baptized as a young adult in the Troy Christian Church. He married Betty Sue Sprick on October 11, 1954 in a Baptist Church in Hernando, Mississippi and they have been married for over 65 wonderful years. Together Mr. and Mrs. Lichtenberg worked hard many years farming, raising cattle and hogs until he retired in 1986. He later drove a truck for a quarry in Warrenton and then drove a truck for the Montgomery County Road and Bridge Department. Herschel was a member of the Bellflower United Methodist Church, enjoyed square dancing, fishing, gardening, and was an animal lover of cattle, hogs, and especially dogs. He also enjoyed music shows with Betty and loved spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Bellflower, MO; four sons: Dennis Lichtenberg and wife, Becky, of Mexico, MO; Bob Lichtenberg and wife, Jeanne, of Bellflower, MO; Mike Lichtenberg and wife, Becky, of Montgomery City, MO; and Mark Lichtenberg and wife, Mary Louise of Columbia, MO; seven grandchildren: Heather Boschert and husband, Grant, of O'Fallon, MO; Holly Forrest and husband, Marcus, of Warrenton, MO; Justin Lichtenberg and wife, Chasity, of Bellflower, MO; Brittany Derks and husband, Stephen, of King City, MO; Brady Lichtenberg and wife, Kylie, of Columbia, MO; Emily Peralta and husband, Rolando, of Novi, Michigan; and Tyler Lichtenberg and wife, Emily, of Columbia, MO; and great-grandchildren: Dru, Deacon, and Deadrick Forrest, Khloe and Kendra Boschert, Kyndri Derks, Elina Peralta, and two great-grandchildren on the way. Also surviving is sister-in-law, Margy Schowe and husband, Herb, of Union, MO; brother-in-law, Larry Sprick and wife, Judy, of Warrenton, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Herschel was preceded in death by his parents Daniel Henry Lichtenberg and Eunice Louise Jones Lichtenberg and sister, Marilyn Winter and husband, Calvin.

A social distancing "Drive thru visitation/Farewell Parade" was held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 18, 2020, driving past the Herschel and Betty Lichtenberg farm, 63 Lichtenberg Road, Bellflower, MO 63333.

Private graveside services were held Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the Zion Cemetery near Truxton, MO. The Reverend Carolyn Hoffmann and the Reverend John Ray officiated. Musicians were Mike Lichtenberg, Marcus Forrest and the Reverend Rich Helton. Casketbearers included Grant Boschert, Marcus Forrest, Justin Lichtenberg, Stephen Derks, Rolando Peralta, Brady Lichtenberg, and Tyler Lichtenberg.
