George Elmer Morris, 89, of Bellflower, Missouri, died on Sunday, August 18, 2019, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, MO.
George Elmer Morris was born June 24, 1930 near Bellflower, MO, to Leander Morris and Effie Day Morris. He graduated from Bellflower High School in 1950 and was a Veteran of the United States Army serving from Feb. 6, 1952 until Nov. 17, 1953. He worked 28 years at Binkley Manufacturing Company in Warrenton until he retired. Mr. Morris married LaVonne Mitchell on June 9, 1957 at Brush Creek Presbyterian Church in Bellflower, MO, and have been married over 62 wonderful years. Mr. Morris was a member of the Bellflower Presbyterian Church and a member of the Machinist Union. He enjoyed yard work and gardening, tinkering in his shop, bird watching, country gospel music and always wanted his car to look spic and span. Mr. Morris loved to visit with all his family and his many friends.
Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, LaVonne Mitchell Morris of Bellflower, MO; daughter, Tammy Martin and husband, Jeff, of Columbia, MO; and two grandchildren: Donovan and Jordan Martin of Columbia, MO. Also surviving is a brother, Jim Morris of North Carolina; nephews: JD Mitchell and wife, Jayne, of New Florence, MO; Chad Mitchell of New Florence, MO; Michael Mitchell and son, Nathan, of Wellsville, MO; and Charles Mitchell and wife, Brandy, and their family; and also many friends.
Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his parents: Leander Morris and Effie Day Morris; brother-in-law, Jimmie Mitchell and sister-in-law, Connie Mitchell.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the Bellflower Presbyterian Church in Bellflower, MO. The Reverend Ray Hall officiated and interment with full Military Honors was in the Bellflower Cemetery in Bellflower, MO. Visitation was Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Casketbearers included JD Mitchell, Charles Mitchell, Michael Mitchell and Jeff Martin.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Bellflower Cemetery, Bellflower Presbyterian Church, or to the Wellsville VFW, c/o Schlanker Funeral Home, 207 Danville Road, Montgomery City, MO 63361.
