George Michael "Mike" Palmer, Jr., 89, of Montgomery City, MO, died on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at the Golden Living Center/Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville, MO.

George Michael Palmer was born August 8, 1926 in Austin, Oregon, to George M. Palmer and Rozina Buchanan Palmer. He graduated from Burns High School in Oregon and then went to two years of college. Mr. Palmer was a Veteran of the United States Army serving from December 31, 1943 until November 19, 1945. On August 22, 1970 he married Henrietta Biggs Mathis Palmer. Together they worked hard on their livestock and grain farm just outside of Montgomery City, MO. He was also named "Farmer of the Year". Mr. Palmer was a member of the Montgomery City Christian Church; was an Elder of the Church; was an avid bowler; had his pilot's license; and enjoyed visiting with all his family and friends.

Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife, Henrietta Biggs Mathis Palmer of Montgomery City, MO; children: George Palmer, III of Montgomery City, MO; Connie Barnett and husband, Terry, of St. Louis, MO; Alan Cox of Lee Summit, MO; Larry Cox of St. Louis, MO; and Julie Brandenburg and husband, Bob, of Montgomery City, MO. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one brother, Patrick Palmer.

Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elizabeth Rose Langivien and two brothers: Charles Franklin "Wamp" Palmer and Robert K. Palmer.

Funeral services were held at 10:30AM on Monday, June 27, 2016 at the Montgomery City Christian Church in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Gary Bailey officiated and interment with full military honors was in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, North of Montgomery City, MO. Visitation was held from 2:00PM until 5:00PM on Sunday at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Casketbearers included Jeremy Cox, Steve Brandenburg, Austin Cox, Garrett Day, Steve Gibson and Courtney Kinder. Honorary casketbearers included Gene Davis and David Hensley.
