George was born on May 13, 1948 in Montgomery City, MO, the first of eight children born to the union of George Eugene and Addie Mae Marteen. His parents preceded him in death.

George attended Montgomery County R-II Schools and graduated in 1966. After graduation George attended Lincoln University and then joined the United States Air Force where he served.  George was united in holy matrimony to Pearlethea Marble in April 1972. To this union was born one son and daughter. George spent most of his professional career as an investigator for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in St. Louis, MO.

George left St. Louis and moved to back home to Montgomery City, MO where he rededicated his life to Jesus Christ and joined St. John White Chapel Baptist Church. He then moved to Columbia, MO until his health started to decline. After being diagnosed with a spinal cord injury that left him a quadriplegic, George was then moved to several Nursing Homes Facilities in Columbia and surrounding areas eventually ending up back in St. Louis, with his son, until he went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, the same day that his beloved granddaughter Arielle Jenise Marteen, who preceded him in death, was born.

George loved to listen to music and could name just about any "oldies" song that came on the radio. He was a jokester who loved to laugh and loved his family, he enjoyed sipping on Pepsi and smoking cigarettes while watching the St. Louis Cardinals and playing the Lottery. He had an intricate system to his Lottery madness whether it was Pick 3 … Pick 4 … Pick 5 … PowerBall …Mega Millions or scratch-offs. He played them all … all the time … his last words to his son was "Get out of here and get my Mega Million tickets before the deadline …the jackpot is up to 1.5 Billion". Well … now brother George has hit the ultimate jackpot: "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord".

George leaves to cherish his memory: One son Damon Marteen (Kristen) of St. Louis, MO and two daughters: Valencia Marteen – St. Louis, MO and Shontay Murray (John) – Columbia, MO; eight grandchildren: Damon Marteen, Jr., Devin Marteen, Cass Collier, Farrah Tegus, Kayneshia Long, Kaeleb Smith, Ron'Zena Hill and Ron'Tayza Hill; three great grandchildren: Alexa Marshall, Maddox Ball and Mason George Ball. Also left to mourn are five brothers: Anthony Marteen (Mary) – Baton Rouge, LA, Gerry Marteen (Clara) – Columbia, MO, Marvin Marteen (Towanda) – Junction City, KS, Stephen Marteen (Sheron) – Detroit, MI and Eric Marteen – Chicago, IL; two sisters, Carol Marteen and Lissa Marteen – St. Louis MO and one aunt Marie Bonds. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Demetrice Bell officiated and interment with full military honors was in the Montgomery City Cemetery. Visitation was held from 1:00 PM until the time of service on Saturday at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO.
