Gary Glenn Garrett was born September 27, 1949 in Mexico, MO, to Kenneth and Helen McGee Garrett.  Gary died on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home after a long battle with Alzheimer's Dementia.

Gary was preceeded in death by his parents and step-mother, Dorothy.

Gary is survived by his wife, Fran and sister, Patricia Garrett Munford, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Gary graduated from Mexico High School in 1967 and joined the Marine Corp where he served until 1971 when he became a police officer for Yuma, AZ.

He returned to Mexico and worked for the Mexico Department of Public Safety for a short time in 1973 where he met his wife, Frances Jane Coleman.

Gary missed the desert and after their wedding moved to Yuma, AZ where he worked on their police department until 1986 when they moved back to the Midwest eventually settling in Shawnee, KS.

He retired from the Johnson County Kansas Sheriff's Department in 2010 and they moved to Montgomery City, MO, in 2012 to be close to family.

Gary and Fran enjoyed traveling especially to out of the way places.  Hiking, camping and avoiding the usual tourist attractions.  He was an active member of the Garden Club of Shawnee and volunteered at Shawnee Mission Medical Center with Fran after retirement.

Gary had a strong Christian faith and attended various churches and served where needed as well as going on mission trips including Viet Nam and a medical mission trip to Bolivia.  Gary attended the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City as long as he was able.

Gary loved God, loved his wife and loved his country.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the East Lawn Cemetery Shelter in Mexico, MO.  Interment will be in the East Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO.
