Dorothy J. Steffan, 90, of O'Fallon, Missouri, originally from rural Montgomery City, Missouri, passed away on August 31, 2025, at Delmar Gardens of O'Fallon.
Dorothy was born to Clara and John Pitman on January 8, 1935, in Kirkwood, Missouri. She married the love of her life, Orville "Buzz" Steffan, on September 11, 1954, in Kirkwood, Missouri. They shared 62 wonderful years together, and to this union, eight wonderful children were born.
Mrs. Steffan was a devoted housewife, a talented seamstress, and the proud business owner of Dot's Machine Quilting. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City, Missouri, and was actively involved in the Council of Catholic Women, Sunday School teaching, Marriage Encounter, Birthright, 4-H, TEC, and Quest.
She enjoyed winemaking, gardening, canning, baking, spending time with her family and friends, and farm life.
Dorothy loved the company of others and always welcomed everyone into her home, making sure they were comfortable and had everything they needed—including college friends. She was especially known for her delicious biscuits and potato salad, which she frequently made for church meals.
Mrs. Steffan was preceded in death by her husband, Orville "Buzz" Steffan, son, Steven D. Steffan, parents, John and Clara Pitman, and sister, Betty Schweke.
Mrs. Steffan is survived by her children: daughter-in-law, Sharon Hart Steffan of Williamsburg, Missouri, Pam Hans and husband, Gary, of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, Wesley Steffan and wife, Vicki, of Jordan, Minnesota, Terri Johnson and husband, Brian, of Columbia, Missouri, Valerie Muchow of New Florence, Missouri, Kevin Steffan of Paris, Missouri, Kenneth Steffan and wife, Stefanie, of Eureka, Missouri, Candice Babbitt and husband, Steve, of University City, Missouri; grandchildren: Shayna, Elyse, Samuel, Joseph, Elizabeth, Nathan, Lindianna, Lukas, Taylor, Courtney, James, Nichole, Amy, Emmy Lou, Drew, Abigail, Bennett, Zachary, Christian; great-grandchildren: Stevie, Quinn, Clara, Ella, Olivia, Bryce, Hattie, Walker, Asher, Carly, Julian, Elliot, and Amelia.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montgomery City, Missouri, with Father Ernest Dike and Father Anthony Simon officiating.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, Missouri.
