Doris Marlene Muchow, 75, of Jonesburg, MO, formerly of Montgomery City, MO, died on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis, MO.

Doris Marlene Callaway Muchow was born on February 21, 1941 at the home of her parents, Roy Lee and Helen E. Callaway.
Marlene was wed to Alvin A. Muchow, Jr. for 51 years and to this union was blessed with four children and 9 grandchildren. Alvin Randall Muchow, his wife, Valerie and their children, James, Nichole and Amy of Montgomery City, MO; Tammy L. Snell, her husband, Robert E. Snell (Robbie) and sons, Ryan and Zachary of Fort Meyers, FL ; Anna E. Muchow and her daughters, Kaitlyn and Alexis of Lake St. Louis, MO; and Robert J. Muchow his wife, Christy, and their children, Jacob and Roxanne of Columbia, MO. Two great-grandchildren, Molly and Addie Snell. Also surviving are her sisters and brother: Carolyn Zuroweste of Mexico, MO; Joan Cullom of Montgomery City, MO; Judy Schraer of Richland, MO; Barbie Boan of Warrenton, MO; and Mike Callaway of Austin, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

In 1982, Marlene served on a committee that planned the first 5th grade conservation tour on the farm of Joe and Marilyn Stevens, featuring eight stop and see sites. She also coordinated a tour for the 4th grade students of the Wellsville and Middletown Schools to the farm of Willard and Gloria Leverett. Both tours were followed up by a Letter Writing Contest, "What I Learned on the Conservation Tour." Today, these two tours are still being held.

Marlene supervised the publication of the newsletter, Agriculture Tomorrow, which was published bi-monthly and circulated to 3,500 readers in Montgomery and Warren Counties. She also wrote a multitude of other news articles.

In 1991, Marlene was instrumental in the establishment of the first Women's AG Awareness Group in Montgomery County and the State of Missouri. On November 8, 2016 at the Merchant's Building in Montgomery City, the original members of this organization were honored for twenty-five years of service. Marlene's Daughter, Anna Muchow attended the banquet and accepted the award on her mother's behalf. Marlene also helped organize the first State Women in AG Conference. This organization presents informative programs on current AG issues.

In 1995, Marlene wrote an article "New Realities: Women and Farming" that was published in the magazine Women in Natural Resources by the University of Idaho.

The Missouri Association of Soil and Water Districts, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service recognized Marlene with numerous awards throughout her 25 years of service.

These awards include a Letter of Commendation and Certificate of Appreciation from the Soil Conservation Service in 1989, recipient of the 1993 MASWCD Managerial Award and 1999 MASWCD State Info Ed Award.

Her dedication and willingness to go the "extra mile" helped organize and maintain one of the premier districts in the State of Missouri.
Marlene also served as a Boy Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Brownie Leader and Community Leader of the Montgomery City Star Shiners 4-H Club.She also served as a Treasurer and committee member of the Montgomery City United Way Board and President of the Montgomery City Park Board.

One of her greatest enjoyments was serving as a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church where she was an active member and met many roles until she was hampered by memory loss.

She loved the scripture from 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

Funeral services were held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Jody Riley officiated. Visitation was held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the Church on Tuesday. Casketbearers included Ryan Snell, Zachary Snell, James Muchow, Nichole Muchow, Amy Muchow, Jacob Muchow, Kaitlyn Austin, Alexis Austin, and Roxanne Muchow.
