Donald Long Benney, 88, of rural Montgomery City, MO, died on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at his home surrounded by family.

Donald Long Benney was born on January 6, 1932 in Montgomery County, MO, to Howard Benney and Madeline Long Benney. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, entering in the Spring of 1952 out of San Antonio, TX serving in the Korean War until April of 1954 being discharged out of Norfolk, VA. Don had married Claire Farnen on June 18, 1955 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City, MO; and they were married over 60 wonderful years until she preceded him in death on May 17, 2016. Together they farmed until their health started to decline. Don was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City, MO, enjoyed hunting and fishing, enjoyed cooking in the shop for his family and friends (so he didn't get Claire's kitchen dirty), and loved to visit all his family and friends.

Mr. Benney is survived by his two sons: Dennis Benney and wife, Jean and Tom Benney and wife, Kaye, all of Montgomery City, MO. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Scott Benney of Montgomery City, MO; Heather Benney of Gardner, KS; Dustin Benney and wife, Hilary, of Montgomery City, MO; Danielle Czerniewski and husband, Eric, of Nixa, MO; and Delaney Benney and fiancée, Zach Adams, of Blue Springs, MO; five great-grandchildren: Jackson, Hadley and Cooper Benney and Emmitt and Maveric Czerniewski; sister, Evelyn Pool of Montgomery City, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mr. Benney was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Madeline Long Benney; wife, Claire Farnen Benney; and brother-in-law, Wayne Pool.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 11, 2021 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City, MO. Father Paul Hartley will officiate and interment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, near Montgomery City, MO. Honorary casketbearers include Scott Benney, Heather Benney, Dustin Benney, Danielle Czerniewski and Delaney Benney.
