Delmar I. Hawkins, Esq., 97, of O'Fallon, MO, formerly of Mexico, MO, died on Monday, January 17, 2022, at his home surrounded by family.
Delmar Ishmeal Hawkins was born on December 10, 1924 in Granite City, IL, to Delmar Hawkins and Estella Miller Hawkins. After graduating from high school he entered into the United States Army serving from August 26, 1943 until February 18, 1946, receiving a purple heart and a bronze star. Mr. Hawkins married Myrtlenell Love on May 30, 1951 in Wellsville, MO, and were married for over 42 wonderful years before she preceded him in death on October 7, 1993. Mr. Hawkins was a Draftsman for A.P. Green in Mexico, MO, until he retired. He enjoyed gardening and lawn work. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Mr. Hawkins is survived by his three children: Estella J. Schibler of O'Fallon, MO; Delmar I. Hawkins, Jr. and wife, Sherry, of Wellsville, MO; and William "Bill" Hawkins and wife, Michelle, of Spring Mill, FL; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Hawkins of Bellflower, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar Hawkins and Estella Miller Hawkins; wife, Myrtlenell Love Hawkins; granddaughter, Crystalynn Hensen; grandson, Justin L. Hawkins; son-in-law, Pete Schibler; brothers: James Hawkins and Butch Hawkins; and sister, Irmagene Pine.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Interment with military honors will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
