Darlene E. Sommer, 83, of Jonesburg, passed away at 6:07 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at SSM St. Mary's Hospital – Audrain in Mexico.

A Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jonesburg with Fr. Augustine Okoli officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jonesburg.

Darlene was born October 19, 1933 in Cottleville, Missouri, the daughter of Theodore and Ella (Phillips) Gutermuth. On February 20, 1954 in St. Paul, she married Wilbert Matthew Sommer. He preceded her in death on November 9, 2014.

Mrs. Sommer was a homemaker and had been a CNA at New Florence Care Center for 30 years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jonesburg, Orange Blossom Extension Club, and was a 4-H leader.

Darlene enjoyed quilting, sewing, counter crossstitching, and baking. She was a gardener and loved her flowers. Mrs. Sommer also enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include her children, Gary Sommer and wife, Lisa, of Montgomery City, Lou Claussen and husband, Mike, of Montgomery City, Nancy Sommer and husband, Charles Meys, of Brooklyn, NY, and Dale Sommer and wife, Jennifer, of Warrenton; eight grandchildren, Clayton Sommer, Whitney Sommer, Caleb and Jennifer Sommer, Christopher and Rebecca Claussen, Megan Claussen, Garrett Sommer, Ben Sommer, and Shelby Sommer; five great-grandchildren, Everett Sommer, Allison Claussen, Nicole Claussen, and twins Joel and Ryan Claussen; and two sisters, Ruby Plume of St. Charles and Lorraine Wilkins of St. Charles.

In addition to her husband, Wilbert, Darlene was preceded in death by one brother, Les Gutermuth; and two sisters, Jeanette Kapeller and Bernice Tucker.
