Damon Lee Haley, 89, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away on December 29, 2023.

Damon was born in Nine Mile Township near Bachelor, Missouri on June 27, 1934, to Frank and Opal Haley (m. Lynch), and graduated from Bellflower High School in 1952.  Damon had four siblings.  He married Margaret Marie Doyle on March 24, 1957, in Big Spring, Missouri.  Damon was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957 and served in active duty for two years.  He continued in reserve service until being honorably discharged in March 1963.

Damon and Margaret had three daughters: Andrea, Wendy, and Leslaie.  Damon moved his family to Colorado, where Damon and Margaret lived until 1994, when they returned to Missouri to the family's farm outside of Fulton, Missouri.  They remained in the Fulton area for several years, until they moved to Jefferson City in 2001.

Damon was a member of the American Legion, a retired Teamster, and a participant with National Federal of the Blind of Missouri's Jefferson City Chapter.  While he remained physically able, Damon enjoyed hunting and fishing on the family farm near Fulton, and spent countless hours with his grandkids gardening, fishing, and maintaining the farm property.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Junior, Mary, Betty, and Helen; his wife, Margaret Haley (m. Doyle); and his three daughters, Andrea Yancy, Wendy Haley, and Leslaie Powers.  Damon is survived by his six grandchildren, Michael Yancy of New Bloomfield, Missouri; Shawn Yancy of Arlington, Virginia; William Powers of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Daniel Powers of Garden City, Kansas, Bradley Powers of Garden City, Kansas, and Madison Mora of Aurora, Colorado; their spouses and partners; and his nine great grandchildren, in addition to various cousins, nieces, nephews, and additional extended family.

Visitation will take place at 1:00 p.m. on January 12, 2024, at Schlanker Funeral Home, 207 Danville Road, Montgomery City, Missouri, and a funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at Liberty Cemetery in Shamrock, Missouri.  Memorials may be made in his name to the National Federation of the Blind of Missouri.
