Charles Roger Richard, 71, of Montgomery City, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones, on Monday evening, January 15, 2018. He had fought a courageous battle with cancer this last year.
Roger was born on October 30, 1946 in Rock Island, Illinois to Charles Raymond Richard and Erma White Richard. His family moved to Montgomery City in 1955. Roger was a 1964 graduate of Montgomery County R-II High School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war. On July 6, 1968 Roger married Patricia Ann Conner at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jonesburg. Together they celebrated almost 50 wonderful years of marriage. To this union three children were born. William Edward, Leah Danielle and Chelsea Ann. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montgomery City where he was Baptized, Confirmed and accepted into full union in March, 2003.
He worked for Allied Systems, Inc. out of Hazelwood, MO for 30 years where he hauled Ford cars and trucks. He retired in 2001. Roger then worked for his brother, Ron, at Blaue's Service in Montgomery City for 10 years.
Roger loved to travel with his family, followed Nascar on T.V. and at races. Tony Stewart was his idol. Roger loved the time he spent with his children and grandchildren, telling them stories of his adventures on the road. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy with his brother, Ron. He also loved his pets and caring for stray cats. Roger loved God and especially cared for and respected the elderly. He always had a smile on his face and would do anything to help someone out.
Roger is survived by his wife Patricia of the home, his son Billy (Jennifer Jackson) of St. Peters, his daughters Leah Richard of the home and Chelsea Dill (Dustin) of Wentzville. Three grandchildren, Nicholas and Noah Richard of St. Peters and Daphne Dill of Wentzville, his twin brother, Ronald (Caren Sue) of Big Spring, twin sisters Alice Fletcher (Lawrence) of Russellville, Arkansas and Edna Rigby (Duane) of Gainesville, Florida. His mother-in-law Dorothy Conner of Montgomery City, his brother-in-law Bud Conner (Pat) of Troy and sisters-in-law Kathy Swinson (Larry) of Pearland, Texas, Linda Patton (Jim) of Silex and Dotty Vigil (Scott) of O'Fallon, MO. Roger is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend, David Dillman of Yuma, Arizona.
Roger was preceeded in death by his parents Polly and Charles Richard, his father-in-law Edward Conner and his nephew and Godson Carl Ryond Richard.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 4-8 PM at Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City with a Prayer Service at 8 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City with Fr. Austin Okoli celebrating. Fr. Ed Doyle concelebrate. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery NW of Montgomery City with full military honors.
Pallbearers will included Nicholas and Noah Richard, Kyel Richard, Bud Conner, Jeff Patton, Joe Powell, Berry Cullom and Mike Brandenburg. David Dillman will be an Honorary Pallbearer.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Immaculate Conception School Scholarship Fund in Montgomery City or to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in care of Schlanker Funeral Home.
