C ha rl e s A. Bishop, 75, of High Hill, MO, died on Monday, March 26, 2018, at the Hermann Area District Hospital in Hermann, MO.

C ha rl e s Arthur Bishop was born June 24, 1942 in Jonesburg, MO, to Harry Samuel Bishop and Mary Belle Groby Bishop. He graduated from Montgomery County R-II High School and later married Phyllis Martin on June 11, 1961 at the Methodist Church in Montgomery City, MO. To this union four

c h il d r e n were born Mitzi, Matt, Peggi, and Philip. Phyllis preceded him in death in May of 2012. Mr. Bishop married Shirley Chambers on September 24, 1982, she survives at the home. In 1995 Mr. Bishop received a heart transplant. In appreciation for this gift, he has donated organs to others in need. Mr. Bishop loved to farm and operated a farm most of his life. In later years he drove a truck for Witte Brothers out of Troy, MO. Mr. Bishop enjoyed playing baseball as a young man and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a conservative and kind-hearted man. Mr. Bishop was a former member and past President of the Board of Directors of Service and Supply Cooperative. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Jonesburg, MO. He collected stamps and old glass containers. He enjoyed good food, camping and spending time with family and friends.

Bishop is survived by his wife, Shirley Chambers Bishop of High Hill, MO; four children: Mitzi Nichols and husband, Tom, of Buell, MO; Matt Bishop and wife, Barbara of Wellsville, MO; Peggi Yager and husband, Greg, of Montgomery City, MO; and Philip Bishop and wife, Bessie, of Hannibal, MO; three step-children: Rick Van Horn and wife, Tracy, of Wellsville, MO; Mark Van Horn and wife, Amy, o f Warrenton, MO; and Chris Van Horn and wife, Wendy, of Jonesburg, MO; grandchildren: Zachary Nichols and wife, Monica; Tyler Nichols and wife, Abbey; Ashley Straatmann and husband, Sam; Brett Bishop; Lauren Kloppe and husband, Karl; Bethany Bishop; Makayla Davenport and husband, Josh; Mackenzie Gaines and husband, Andrew; Karina Yager; Travis Bryant and wife, Sarah; Caleb Bryce; and Paige Bishop. Step-grandchildren: Eric Van Horn and wife Chelsey; Jonathan Van Horn; Heather Van Horn; Faith Van Horn; Ryan Van Horn; Tyler Van Horn; and Ella Van Horn; Great-grandchildren: Malachi Nichols; Micah Nichols, Ezra Nichols; Avery Straatmann; Nora Straatmann; Karter Kloppe; Aidyn Bryant and Autym Bryant; and step-great-grandchild, Maverick Van Horn. Also surviving is his Brother, David Bishop and wife, Sue, of Jonesburg, MO; brother-in-law, Tom Chambers and wife, Linda of Jonesburg, MO; sister-in-law, Carroll McDermitt of Mexico, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

M r . Bishop was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Belle Bishop; Brother, Sam Bishop; an d first wife, Phyllis Martin Bishop.

Funeral services were held at NOON on Friday, March 30, 2018, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Jonesburg, MO. Interment was in the Jonesburg City Cemetery in Jonesburg, MO. The Reverend Gary Ellul officiated.  Visitation was held from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Friday at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Jonesburg, MO. Casketbearers included Eric Van Horn, Jonny Van Horn, Zachary Nichols, Tyler Nichols, Josh Davenport; Andrew Gaines; Brett Bishop; Sam Straatmann; and Karl Kloppe. Honorary casketbearers included the rest of his grandchildren.
