Charlene Maybelle Jahner, 85, of Montgomery City, Missouri, passed away at her home on Monday, May 5, 2025.

Born on April 4, 1940, in Mishawaka, Indiana, Charlene was the daughter of Francis E. Mikel and Reba (Bartlett) Bates. She spent much of her life in South Bend, Indiana, where she proudly cheered on her beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish. On December 24, 1992, Charlene married the love of her life, Lawrence Henry Jahner. Together, they shared 44 wonderful years, filled with love, laughter, and adventure, including many winters spent as snowbirds in Arizona. Larry preceded her in death on July 10, 2024, and Char longed to be by his side once again.

Mom was a woman of many passions. She loved sewing, gardening, and canning, and she found joy in simple pleasures like fishing with Larry and watching the birds—especially the cardinals—who visited her numerous feeders and birdbaths. She was a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed trying her luck at the slot machines at the casino.

Above all, Char was a devoted mother, nana, daughter, sister, and sister-in-law. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and her home was always filled with the warmth of her cooking and the comfort of her presence. She was also a beloved neighbor and friend, generous with her time, care, and kindness.

Charlene was ready to reunite with her husband in peace, and those who knew her take comfort in knowing they are together once more.

Charlene is survived by her sister, Marjorie Shroff; children: Debbie (Les) Schneider, Michael Hunsucker, Joell (Sean) Webb; stepchildren: Kim Jahner, Jon (Stephenie) Jahner; former daughter-in-law, Lisa Jahner; 25 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence Henry Jahner, parents, Francis Mikel and Reba Bates, and her brother, Richard Lutz.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montgomery City, Missouri, with Father Ernest Dike officiating.
