Bernice Lourine Haeberle Schroer, 102, of New Florence, MO, passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, just shy of her 103 rd birthday. She was born February 26, 1920 to Fred and Emma (Kirchhoffer) Haeberle near Case, MO.
Bernice married Henry John Schroer on April 6, 1941 at the Samuel Evangelical & Reformed Church in Clayton, MO. They began their married life at Massas Creek and later moved to a farm at New Florence, MO. Bernice worked the farm right along side Henry. She also raised chickens to produce eggs which she delivered weekly to Hermann, MO. She was an avid gardener, an outstanding cook, seamstress, and homemaker. She especially enjoyed quilting and made many quilts as gifts for her family members.
Bernice was baptized at St. John's UCC in High Hill. As a member she worked hard helping with many church activities and projects. She also served as a 4-H project leader with the Kountry Kids Club helping with sewing and woodworking.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Phillip) Engel and daughter-in-law, Susan Schroer; and grandchildren: Catharine (James) Dickey of Mountain Grove, MO; Carla (Chris) Parker of Montgomery City, MO; Marcus (Marvelyne) Engel of Orlando, FL; and Scott Schroer of New Florence, MO. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Henry John Schroer; son, Carl Henry Schroer; three siblings: Viola Kraettli, Rubin Haeberle and Fred Haeberle. She was also preceded in death by several nephews and many in-laws.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the St. John's United Church of Christ in High Hill, MO. The Reverend Donald Deeker will officiate and interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near High Hill, MO. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the Church. Casketbearers include Marcus Engel, Scott Schroer, James Dickey, J. P. Dickey, Chris Parker, Carson Parker, Collin Parker and Clayton Parker.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery or to the St. John's United Church of Christ in High Hill, MO; c/o Schlanker Funeral Home, 207 Danville Road, Montgomery City, MO 63361.
