Bernadine Long, 101, of Hermann, MO, formerly of Montgomery City, MO, died on Monday, March 19, 2018, at the Frene Valley Nursing Home in Hermann, MO.
Bernadine Clare Long was born February 11, 1917 in Bluffton, MO, to William Gleeson and Emma Stiers Gleeson. She graduated from Hermann High School and then received some college credit. Mrs. Long taught for a couple of years before she married Thomas Glennon Long on February 12, 1938, he preceded her in death on December 22, 1991. After her children were grown she taught at the Immaculate Conception School in Montgomery City, MO. Mrs. Long was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City, MO; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Immaculate Conception Church; belonged to the Garden Club; enjoyed gardening especially her Rose Garden and she was a very good cook. She loved spending time with her family and her friends.
Mrs. Long is survived by two children: Cathy Reed of Washington, MO and Mary Bade of Chesterfield, MO; son-in-law, Marvin Sturgeon of Independence, MO; nine grandchildren: Martin Sturgeon of Japan; Michele Sturgeon of Springfield, MO; Karen Gregory of Lee's Summit, MO; David Reed of Kansas City, MO; Daniel Reed of Clayton, MO; Angela Stork of Barnhart, MO; Sarah Engle of Portland, Oregon; Michael Bade of Burlington, Vermont; and Jennifer Vanderhoff of Seattle, Washington; great-grandchildren: Amity, Alex, Elizabeth, Penelope, Jacob, Emily, Owen and Quinn; and by two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters and brothers: Pat Bahr, Ralph Gleeson, Jim Gleeson, Dorothy Markelon, and Nadine Clark; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her parents, William and Emma Gleeson, her husband, Thomas Glennon Long, two daughters: Rose Ann Sturgeon and Teresa Ott; and several brothers and sisters.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Augustine Okoli will officiate and interment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Montgomery City, MO. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the Immaculate Conception Church.
