Barbara Ann Messinger, 82 of High Hill, Missouri passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at her son's home in Columbia, Missouri. She had been struggling with glioblastoma brain cancer for some time.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 15 at St. John's United Church of Christ in High Hill. Burial will follow in Hugo Cemetery near New Florence, Missouri. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Barb was born on October 22, 1942, in Mexico, Missouri to Virgil Paul and Rosalie Mae (Blaue) Timmerberg. She was a 1960 graduate of Montgomery County High School and a 1961 graduate of Capital Business College in Jefferson City, Missouri.
On July 16, 1988, she married Ronald Dale Messinger. They celebrated over 32 years of marriage together before he preceded her in death in 2020.
She was employed for 30 years at Cargill, Inc. in Montgomery City, from which she retired in 2002. She served as the Tax Collector for High Hill for many years.
Barb was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ in High Hill where she served as Secretary and was active in the choir and Ladies Aid. She was a member of High Hill Helpers, Pinochle Club in High Hill and was a board member of High Hill Senior Housing.
She and Ron enjoyed traveling and they were able to visit all 50 states. They went on cruises and enjoyed many bus trips around the country. They enjoyed going to antique malls and flea markets and ended up collecting many different things. Barb loved to cook for her family and always enjoyed spending time with them.
Barb is survived by her daughter, Kelli (Randy) Schnell and son, Kent (Lori) Knudsen all of Columbia, Missouri; Ron's children, Andrea (Mike) Cumberland of Summerville, South Carolina, Mike Messinger (Shelley Karam) of O'Fallon, Missouri; Kay (Justin) McCormack of The Colony, Texas and Kelly (Jimmy) Jones of Oak Grove, Missouri; grandchildren, Ryan Knudsen, Sara Granados, Ashley Fullam, Mya McCormack, Ava McCormack, Ty McCormack, Caden Jones, Cameron Jones; Randy Schnell II, and Becky Riffle; sister, Carolyn Sue (David) Bishop of Jonesburg, Missouri; sister-in-law, Connie (Calvin) Blakley of Kingwood, Texas; brother-in-law, Larry Messinger of St. Louis, Missouri, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ron and his son, Christopher John Messinger.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ or Hugo Cemetery Association both in care of Schlanker Funeral Home, 207 Danville Road, Montgomery City, Missouri 63361.
