Barbara Ann Johnson, 81, of New Florence, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, at Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, with burial following at New Florence Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, at the funeral home.

Barbara was born on June 25, 1943, in Shelbina, the daughter of James H. and Evelyn (Shively) Kropf. On December 15, 1963, she married James "Jim" Martin Johnson at Kentucky Road Christian Church in Mexico. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2019.

Barbara graduated from Mexico High School and went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse after attending nursing school. She worked at the hospital for two years and then for several local businesses throughout the area. She retired after 25 years at Family Pharmacy.

Barb was known for her kind and caring nature. She was a devoted mother, sister, and friend who always put others before herself. Her warmth and generosity knew no bounds, and her smile had the power to brighten any room. She had a gift for connecting with people and was rarely seen without running into someone she knew.

Family brought her great joy, and she cherished time spent with her loved ones. Barb enjoyed visiting antique shops and camping with Jim, with whom she shared many happy years of adventures. She also had a deep love for animals, which was evident to all who knew her.

Barbara is survived by her two children, Michelle (Bill) Johnson Schafer of Martinsburg and Steve (Cheryl Myrick) Johnson of Montgomery City; her grandchildren, Josh Schafer of Martinsburg, Ashley Schafer of Mexico, Haeley Johnson of Montgomery City, Alec C. Johnson of Montgomery City, and Marisa Bertels of Mexico; and two great-grandchildren, Renly and Ellie Schafer. She is also survived by her brothers, Jim (Sharon) Kropf and Jerry (Kathy) Kropf, both of Mexico, and her sister, Lori Hopkins, of Mexico.

In addition to her husband of 56 years, Jim, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, James and Evelyn Kropf.

Memorial donations may be made to the Audrain Humane Society. They may be sent in care of Schlanker Funeral Home, 207 Danville Road, Montgomery City, MO 63361.
