Arline F. Slovensky, 91, of Montgomery City, MO, died on November 28, 2018 at the New Florence Care Center in New Florence, MO.

Arline Faye Buschmann Slovensky was born April 4, 1927, on the Loyd family homestead outside New Florence, MO to William [Hayden] Loyd and Manila [Mabel] Dixon Loyd. Arline graduated from Montomery City High School. She attended several colleges including Hannibal-Lagrange College, the Missouri Teacher's College in Kirksville, and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education and Lifetime Teaching Certificate from the University of Missouri. Later she earned a Master of Education in Elementary Guidance and Counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

She married Arnold Frederick Buschmann in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1961. Arline later married Ernest Richard Slovensky in 1965. He preceded her in death in 2003. Arline spent 36 years in the field of education beginning her teaching career at the Crabapple Grove School in Montgomery County. She taught for many years in Gasconade County in rural schools such as Stoenner School, Richwood School, and the Upper Little Berger School. After marrying Ernest Slovensky she taught in Alton and Hillsboro and returned to Montgomery County in 1975 to work for the Montgomery County R-2 School District as an elementary guidance counselor. She retired in 1988 after serving the Montgomery County R-2 School District for 13 years. After retirement, she was often recognized as the "flag lady" who handed out American flags to all the kindergarteners on behalf of the Hardin-Camp Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Arline Slovensky was devoted to her family. She loved teaching and loved music. Arline was a Sunday school teacher for 20 years and sang in or directed church choirs for over 35 years. Arline enjoyed working outdoors as was evident by her large garden and many beautiful beds of flowers. Arline was an active member of the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City, MO where she was a member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School class. She was also very active in the local and state D. A. R., active in the Delta Kappa Gamma organization, the Missouri School Counselors' Association, P.E.O., and a 36-year member of the Missouri State Teachers' Association.

Arline Slovensky is survived by one son: John Slovensky and wife Sherri, of New Florence, MO; two step-children: Charlie Slovensky and wife Mona, of Dacula, GA; and Nancy Stewart and husband Mike, of Rotunda, FL; two foster daughters: Ida Powers of Colorado Springs, CO; and Bernice Bauer of St. Louis, MO; twelve grandchildren: Josh and Justin Slovensky and wife Glorianne; Shannon Kerr and husband Ryan; Marie Pilotto and husband Joe, and Aaron Stewart and wife Nicole; Caleb, Hannah, Bethany, and Jonah Slovensky; Michael Powers and wife Jennifer; James and Kyle Hufendick; two step-grandchildren: Randy Powers and wife, Francine; and Christal Gaines; nine great-grandchildren: Colton, Alexandra, and Cayson Pilotto; Emaline Stewart; Sophia, Ethaniel, and Elliot Slovensky; Benjamin and Brianna Powers; four step great-grandchildren: Grant Powers; Christopher, Dean, and Zachary Kellogg; two sisters: Anice Renner, and Wilma Maroney and husband George; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Arline Slovensky was preceded in death by her parents; step-son Richard Slovensky; and sisters, Alice Craig and Emma Mae Finke.

Funeral services were held at 6:00 PM on December 4, 2018 at the First United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City, MO.  The Reverend Ed Hankinson officiated and interment was at the New Florence Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on December 4, 2018 at the First United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City, MO.

Casketbearers included Loyd Finke, Richard Renner, Scott Craig, David Barker, Caleb Slovensky, and Jonah Slovensky.
