Alvin "Bob" Edward River, 100, of Montgomery City, MO, died on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Alvin Edward River was born December 25, 1920 in Truxton, Missouri to Andrew River and Amelia Caroline Sievert River. He graduated from Montgomery City High School and was a Veteran of the United States Army. Mr. River married Fay Oliver and she preceded him in death in 1948. Later Bob married Betty Lou Riddle on June 5, 1954 in Montgomery City, MO and they have been married for over 67 wonderful years. Mr. River owned the Conoco Distributorship in Montgomery City for many years, owned the Conoco Station, and farmed. One of his greatest pleasures was being outside at his farm near Bellflower, MO. Mr. River was a member of the First United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City, MO; a member of the Masonic Lodge in Montgomery City; a former member of the Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery City; was a volunteer at the Montgomery County Fair, and enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and boating. He enjoyed visiting with all his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Mr. River is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Riddle River of Montgomery City, MO; two children: Robert "Bob" Alan River and wife, Debbie, of Hermann, MO; and Beverly Ann River of O'Fallon, MO; grandchildren: Kelsey River Anderson and husband, Tyler, of Washington, MO; Johnna River Durbin and husband, Jeff, of Weatherby Lake, MO; and Cameron Polk of O'Fallon, MO; Four Great-grandchildren: Lola, River, Lennon, and Remi; Step-grandchildren: David (DJ) Polk, Eric Polk, Brandon Polk, and Jaclyn Polk; sister-in-law, Elaine River of Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mr. River was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Amelia River; wife, Fay Oliver River; son-in-law, David Polk; Sister, Mildred Miller; Brother, Wesley River and wife, Ruby; and Brother-in-law, Thomas Riddle and wife, Lora Dene, Jack Riddle and wife, Arleen, and William Riddle.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at the First United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Daniel Sparks and the Reverend Lynn Quist will officiate. Interment with full Military Honors will be in the Montgomery City Cemetery in Montgomery City, MO. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Casketbearers include Bob River, Cameron Polk, Gary River, Andy River, Tyler Anderson and Jeff Durbin.
